Work Experience

Year 10 students are given the opportunity to complete one week of work experience. The dates may vary each year.

Work experience is a chance for you to:

  • Find out more about yourself.
  • Find out what inspires you.
  • Come up with career ideas and try them out.
  • Discover your strengths, values, motivations, and interests.
  • Meeting new people.
  • Develop work skills and confidence.
  • Have skills and experience to add to your CV.

It can also help you to rule out options which can help to focus on your career ideas.

Process

  • We use unifrog to coordinate all the paperwork required between students, employers, parents, and school.
  • Launch Assembly to students and letter home to parents at least 5 months beforehand.
  • Work Experience forms are made available for students to complete if they find a placement. Forms handed to Miss Gallagher
  • All placements are put onto unifrog, employers receive an email form to complete and agree, parents then receive an email to agree placement and finally, the school signs placement off.
  • All details of timings, dress code, procedures etc are on unifrog for both students and parents to see.
  • Form time support given during the process to help find employers.
  • All students on work experience complete a workbook of evidence of learning.
  • A member of staff will visit during the week or make a phone call to see how students are getting on.

Unable to find a placement

We recognise that it is not easy to find a work placement and not all employers reply or get back to requests on time. Please come and see Miss Gallagher to discuss and receive some help.

Any student not on work experience will attend school as normal.
